January 2025 Vol. 54
Happy New Year!
We are excited that 2025 is upon us. In the coming months, we will be rolling out our CampTek 2.0 initiatives. Like most of you, we are hyper-focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its capabilities. AI for most, is still in the early stages as there haven’t been use cases that have provided huge impact yet for most businesses.
Our approach, as always, is to work on those business problems that automation and now AI can help solve using a myriad of strategies to tackle the problem.
At a high level, we believe using AI for problem identification in conjunction with automation to create efficiencies is the best way to start. That being said, we are proud to announce our enhanced approach to:
Both are consistent with our CampTek 2.0 path forward in which we leverage RPA Rules-based automation as the foundation and then build AI capability from there. The full end-to-end approach is to create an in-house AI brain that can be leveraged by bots, APIs, EMR/EHR, Data Analytics, and Chat Bots. Automation alone won’t solve these problems we face. The intelligence must be everywhere in the organization to assist their day-to-day operations.
I personally wish all those reading our Newsletter a fulfilling year. We at CampTek are happy to support you in your goals.
Always thinking,
Peter CampTek2.0

AI 2025: Feed the BrainIt’s easy to get lost in the “noise” around the term Artificial Intelligence (AI) everyone is talking about it, businesses, government entities, school-aged children, and young adults. It’s on social media, online ads, football commercials, video games and billboards. I would say it’s ubiquitous from an awareness standpoint but how much is it used in business? My general sense is that besides Facebook, Apple, Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Tesla/SpaceX/Twitter, and NVIDIA there isn’t an abundance of commonplace use cases just yet. There are many theories as to why this is. One of my thoughts is everyone wants it but doesn’t understand how to implement and monetize it correctly. In a recent statement, the CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella indicated that “SaaS is Dead” and software companies need to rethink their strategy with the use of emerging technologies. It has long been said that in this era “every company is a software company.” With this in mind, businesses need to embrace and understand the impact of AI, frankly quickly! For AI to work, it needs fresh quality data. That is not an easy feat since the data in a mid to large enterprise can be in multiple places (systems, databases, spreadsheets, and documents) not to mention in the head of the people working at the company. All pose a significant risk of not being captured correctly or lost based on employee turnover and/or contracts ending. All these entities have required years of teaching by humans either from Data entry and/or experience. This data group represents the majority of IP every company possesses, today it operates as the brain of the enterprise. The current way of feeding and using the brain is inefficient, prone to leakage, and frankly archaic. My advocacy is that all companies need to realize that they are losing money and efficiency continuing with this approach and are not gaining intelligence and insight at the rate that will be needed to stay competitive in the future. Often when we speak to customers, we refer to RPA (Robotic Process Automation) as the “hands” of a human and AI as the “brain”. This analogy is acceptable when you think that RPA’s use of AI could be limited in scope based on its function. If you think of AI that can be consumed by many things (i.e. APIs, Chat Bots, Data Analytics, SaaS Applications), that brain can serve a lot of touchpoints. Simply put, the use of AI can make an enterprise brain or brains that solve specific business problems, never forget anything, and improve over time regardless of who and what comes and goes at the company. There are various ways to create this in-house intelligence using automation, data, and teaching. Once we understand that, we will begin to see exponential growth in the adoption and use of the technology. And we might be happier, I hope? Written by: Peter Camp, CTO & Founder |

Prior Authorization AI Automation
A few facts about the current State of Prior Authorization in the U.S. Healthcare market.
- Over a quarter (27%) of prior authorizations are often or always denied by insurance companies.
- Request and Statusing Delays: These can result in missed timeline requirements and financial losses, amounting to a 2-5% loss of topline revenue for healthcare providers.
- A majority of doctors (62%) said prior authorization has led to additional office visits, with 64% saying authorization hassles have led to ineffective initial treatments. Nearly half of physicians (46%) said prior authorization has resulted in patients needing immediate care, including emergency department visits.
- $35 Billion is spent in the US each year on administrative costs for Prior Authorization
- There is an average of 300k changes to a Payors health plan per year.
Recent study indicated that the use of light AI and RPA went from 10% approval to 90% approval improvement
The CampTek Prior Authorization AI Automation solution uses a multi-pronged approach to solve the myriads of challenges presented by submitting Authorizations in an accurate, timely and successful way.
Our solution is composed of several parts:
- Automation and AI First. Using AI, we can take a historical view of the 835 files from your top Payors to identify high level trends around denials by Payor, CPT code, Diagnosis, physician and patient demographics.
Using this data, we build Prior Authorization Automations that perform both the Request and Status parts of the workflow. Our data team begins to pull the data from the automations to feed the AI Model.
These automations are bespoke and will work any EMR, Payor Portal, Availity, Waystar or other clearing houses. See examples of the Prior Auth Request and Status Bots running in action. - Intelligence Building. Once the automations are running in production, we begin gather data an intelligence around the authorizations that are getting statused, this data will be fed to the data model continuously. In addition, any changes in the Payors plan that are communicated via their website, pdfs or other forms are also fed to the data model to make the AI more intelligent.
- Intelligence Consumption. This approach, in time, will provide incredible value in that it can react and adapt to Payor changes but also ensure that the Prior Authorization submitted will be completed and have a higher chance of acceptance. The outcome will be capturing lost top line revenue and providing specific inhouse intelligence for Prior Authorization using predictive, generative and analytic AI intelligence. This can be consumed in a platform independent way (agentic AI Bots, data analytics programs, ChatBots, Epic or other applications that have API integration).
This is a feed and use the “brain” approach all while giving an operations team the tools it needs to be efficient, save on costs and capture the revenue that would otherwise be written off. Payors are increasingly using AI, so this is a crucial strategy for Providers to have this on their roadmap.
